A little bit of a mix today of some new sounds, a little bit of hip hop, dub techno and slow house.  Up first, one of my absolute favorite producers, the still-eminent (RIP).  Jay Stay Paid came out last week, and it bumps hard and heavy, rough and rugged, rugged and raw, hard core…you get the idea haha.  This generous portion of Dilla signature sounds narrated our drive from Baltimore back to Brooklyn on tour this past week.  It plays out in a mixtape style, somewhat akin to Donuts, with shorter and more varied tracks, pieced together to give true fans a message from Dilla himself, wherever he is.

June is a British producer making his debut on Moodgadget later this month, coincidently.  This dub techno-steeped track is out now on the Modetwo compilation, and it will be included on the 4-track EP titled One.  The rest of the release is a nicely chilled plate of dub techno tracks, which to quote the release notes “defies gravity, floating effortlessly.”  Great tracks for DJs to use as transitions and mashups, I’ve been using this specific track in a mashup with The Spaceape.

Bullion is a very fresh new producer who as of yet has been elusive in terms of details, but as his myspace eludes, 2009 will be his year.  These next two tracks are both of his making, the first one is Time For Us All To Love, (aptly titled) from the Young Heartache EP.  I first heard this pick when Jakub threw it down whilst DJ’ing in between sets at Coco66 Saturday, I absolutely love the way it bumps along, perfect for hazy summer gatherings.  The second pick comes from his 2007 mashup mixtape Pet Sounds: In the Key of Dee (free download?!?!?!), blending the Beach Boys with the afforementioned patron saint of Detroit Hip Hop, influences of both can be heard in his newest material.  I can’t wait to see this young producer’s career unfold.  This track remixes one of my favorite Beach Boys tracks, Wouldn’t It Be Nice, giving it a sheen like new chrome rolling down the streets of some fantastic amalgamation of Detroit and Hawaii.
