Beat Evolution pt.02: Yearning For Your Love
Randomly came across a nasty track from Styles P at my friend’s apartment this past weekend, when suddenly I realized that I’d heard the sample used in the beat in one of my favorite jungle tracks. That instantly got me over to WhoSampled.com to find out the original track both of these songs were based on. Oh, and since I couldn’t find a good picture for the Gap Band that would fit on Blog.H34, we instead have this awesome animation from FFFFOUND!

is one of those classic soul outfits comprised of a group [of 3] brothers, and in 1980 (I think) they released this blazing hot tune called Yearning For Your Love. Love the way the instrumental just floats along, the bass and guitar work so well together. There is definitely potential for a nice slow/deep house remix to come from this song, if anyone knows of one let me know!

Here’s the track that came on last weekend, the beat is largely unchanged from the original, which I think is fine in my book. After all, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. It would be a rare occurrence for me to post what is considered by most to be commercial hip hop, but I can still get down with some of it, so hopefully the more indie-dedicated can still appreciate the variety.

Finally, the original track I heard the Gap Band’s track in, one of my favorite drum n bass tunes, it’s by , a producer largely more well-known for his 80s-leaning pop-infused jungle music (electrostep). This track appeared on a compilation called Weapons of Mass Creation, and I was hooked the moment I heard it back in 2005. I am not as deep into DnB anymore as I used to be, but I’ll always get hyped whenever this track comes on.
