Mogi Grumbles, Pedro Cali, Sir Von Rohr, Youandewan
So, you may have noticed a couple of minor tweaks and adjustments to Blog.H34, but for those wondering– I have refined and skinned a proper search box (thanks to Shelby White for the help!), and brought my network links up toward the top of the sidebar. Search is an essential function that was previously buried down at the bottom of the sidebar, but now you can hit Blog.H34 whenever you vaguely remember a tune or design and want to bring it back up. I’ve also linked up authors’ names at the end of these posts, which should help give contributors like Jay (formerly Laotze) the recognition they deserve when they post something awesome. At any rate, as I’ve been powering through this week at an astounding pace (I was hard at work for 15 or 16 hours yesterday), here are a bunch of tracks from my radar, things to keep an eye out for, each are 4/4, but each are from very different styles.

Mogi Grumbles is my friend Alex Taam, whose music I’ve posted up before. His newest release is coming out at the end of this month, it’s called The Black Box Set. A collection of tracks, each titled with “EP” at the end are a playful jab at the overabundance of singles and EPs out today, Mogi makes a strong case for focusing the time, talent, and energy, into a more complete expression. Having heard the album from it’s inception, even helping to refine the tracks, and tracklist, through multiple iterations, I still stand in awe of the finished product, solidified by the excellent mastering work of Moodgadget co-founder Adam Hunt. The album is intoxicating, to say the least, fans of french/disco house will be pleased, but those with a taste for the darker side will be in love at first listen. And I’m not talking goth dark (although slightly), it’s more like black satin, music that balances the best of the relatively recent past, with the sort of future-mindedness that Moodgadget strives to bring out of its artists. Keep an eye/ear out for it, and download this track to tide you over until then.
Pedro Cali – Misty (Rodriguez Jr Remix)

I have been doing more work and chatting with my friend Nitzan recently, helping out with his Save Vinyl! project. He runs UK-based deep house imprint Fine Art Recordings, and has been a fixture on the scene in a variety of forms– producer, DJ, label boss, and purveyor of both fashion and idea. He sent this awesome track my way yesterday, Rodriguez Jr’s remix of a track by Pedro Cali, it’s on the Fine Art compilation Electronic Versions, which comes out on Oct 16th. It also has a very chilled little roller of a remix from 40 thieves, as well as Sei A bringing a fresh taste of 120 two-step, some very solid material indeed. I told him that it’s for deep cuts like these that I sift through hours and hours of disposable tracks.
Sir Von Rohr – Viper

Evan over at Race Car Productions sent me this track a little while back, I never forgot about it, just needed to find the right time to post it. You need some bass in order to fully experience this one, it’s dark and mechanical, like some kind of haunted abandoned car factory in Detroit. Even as ominous as the beat sounds, it beckons listeners to lurch along with it, sort of a good Halloween track if you ask me, definitely a good one for October when the leaves are turning and the weather is cooling off. It’s by Sir Von Rohr, and is on the Vapor EP.
Youandewan – Anjou

Finally, here’s a track I just recently came across, it’s by Youandewan. (Yet another goofy choice of name), I don’t think I’ve ever heard something that plays out quite like this. Not only does it get points for melding ambient guitar drone, shoegaze and deep house, but for doing it with style on top of that. I think tracks like these should be getting more play and more attention, it could appeal to fans of indie rock, ambient, and dance/house music. The way this track builds and develops is what makes it so appealing to me, what we’ve got on our hands is a brand new artist with, if his Anjou EP was any indication, a fresh new sound.
