Here are some hot dancefloor tracks I’ve come across in my travels, a little more positive and sociable than usual, where I prefer to post up deep tunes that make a sexy face rather than a smile, so to speak.

is a pretty unassuming musician to be including in a post like today’s, as he is usually identified with a more soulful R&B or hip-hop sound than dance.  However, this cut on City Lights Vol. 2: Shibuya is definitely a tune I would throw on at the right time.  Sometimes you need some silky smooth female vocals and a less intense instrumental that doesn’t compromise enjoyability, and that’s just what Nicolay delivers here.  I really like the concept of capturing the excitement of being in an unfamiliar city in Asia.  In this case, he refers to Shibuya, a ward of Tokyo, and the cover image (above) reminded me a lot of being in cities like Shanghai and Xian in China back in 2006.

I haven’t a clue who Marie Joly is, or the remixer of this track, Santos.  However, the classic-house sounding pianos and the mix of French and English vocals sounds as appealing as ever.  There is next to nothing future-minded here in this track, nothing that makes you think “that’s what it’s going to sound like five years from now,” a quality that really draws me to certain tracks, but I think I like this for just that reason– it harkens back to D’mitri from Paris’ epic disco house mixdown A Night at the Playboy Mansion, which I loved as a teenager.  This is the kind of tune you play for some of the older house heads, but expect others to enjoy just the same.

The more I hear from , the more I am intrigued by his unique approach.  I was swept off my feet by tracks like Avoiding the Subject, which appeared on my Crescendo mix, and then I caught wind of this tune when I looked a little deeper into Om Records, being a pretty big fan of their sound.  This tune seems to have an entire beginning sequence which then reverts back to another drop a few minutes into the song.  That’s where I’d drop it in, it almost sounds like the intro music to a fashion show or something with this really intense, driving beat.  Lovin’ it.

Finally, speaking of Om, this new single from seems to be all the rage, a sort of cross between the sub-heavy kicks of deep house and the synthy tones and snares of nu-disco, I would hope and think that this tune could reach across dancefloors and get fans of both genres moving.  I don’t think I spend enough time appreciating the difference between the two, in order to realize that one crowd might not like the other’s taste in music.  This tune might just be able to bridge that gap.
