Earlier this week, I rediscovered one of the greatest mixes of disco and house I’ve ever heard, even to this very day–Respect Is Burning presents: A Night at the Playboy Mansion, Mixed by Dimitri from Paris.  I heard this epic mix way back when in 2000 on an Astralwerks promo.  This is pretty insane, considering the fact that I had not yet discovered stuff like Daft Punk, and my phase of Trance and Progressive House was still a couple years from taking effect.  Just about the only remotely electronic music I was aware of at that point was NIN and Radiohead, neither of which can be considered terribly electronic anyway…the point is, A Night at the Playboy Mansion was a harbinger of tastes to come, and I’m surprised I wasn’t pulled right into the scene the moment I heard it.  Smooth and timeless, this release is definitely a keeper.

Anyway, since today’s post focuses on a single release (which I highly recommend you pick up if you like it), I’m going to revert back to the original format we used to use around Blog.H34.  I wish I could find the original promotional megamix, I’m sure it’s on a CD buried somewhere in the depths of my room back at my parents’ house.  It’s wild to be able to go back to a release like this and not pick up on how long ago it came out…sometimes it’s pretty easy to pick up on turn-of-the-century disco house, but since this sort of blurs the line between the original tracks and their updated edits, the entire thing ends up sounding as authentic as it would if this project was just being released tomorrow.  Enjoy the hotness, and check out Eté d’Amour for !
