Went cruisin’ around for some new deep hotness, and here’s what I’ve found: music that sounds like orange sunrise glistening off the water, lights shining through mistiness of the dancefloor at its fever pitch, or the feeling of anticipation just before going out.  Unfortunately, I’ve been swamped during the week, and snowed or rained in during the weekends recently.  At any rate, tunes like these have kept me going, preventing me from catching a case of cabin fever or getting too wound up in the day-to-day at work.  The image above is from the rather excellent of posters by Buenos Aires, Argentina-based graphic designer, Minga.

is one musician/DJ/producer/label head who hasn’t taken a break to bask in the glow of a successful 2009, which saw Wolf + Lamb gain a tremendous international following, not to mention Resident Advisor chart-topping placement for labels of the year.  Instead, Gadi, Zev, and the W+L has continued to assault the house and techno charts with blazing hot tracks this year, not the least of which is this new EP out on Spectral Sound called I Can Never Get Enough.  It’ll be tough to top 2009, but if the first three months are any indication, W+L is going to be on a lot of tables this year.

Speaking of wolves and lambs, here’s a hot one off ‘ newest EP, Love in the Key of Freak.  It’s out on Berlin-based, Get Physical, run by , , and .  The entire EP is excellent, perhaps the GPM crew said it best, Lee Curtiss’ sound, “fuses Disco, House and Sex.”  Very DJ- and listener-friendly tunes here, some of which restrain new elements of the track until halfway in, adding new dimensions to the listening and dancing experience, it feels fresh, even though it is still disco-tinged house, the same stuff I’ve been listening to (and loving) for years.

Switching gears now to a different sort of aesthetic within deep house, I actually haven’t started mentally separating tracks like this from the ones above until just recently.  It’s out on Om Records’ newest annual, Miami 2010, a completely different locale, different history, different scene, and it will probably appeal to different tastes in various situations.  That also means, at least as far as I’m concerned, that this track by Opolopo & Demetrius is just as good a cut of deep house, but is an apple, compared to an orange like above, or a pear like below.  Some people prefer a loungier, more contemporary American sound, which incorporates R&B without going overboard in any department…the resulting balance is accessible and fun to listen to.

The pear in today’s post, Bright Star, represents yetanother aesthetic of deep house, although it incorporates elements of both of the above, I think this sound is more European.  It should come as no surprise given that and are in fact, European, but the sound has its own personality, and so in my mind, tracks like this now exist in a different group than these other tracks.  Regardless, I love the cork-popping percolation and those slightly cheesy keyboard trumpets, it’s definitely a playful instrumental, which provides a good counter-balance to the charming-yet-somber tone of the vocalist, Julia Biel.
