Lump, Glimpse, Atnarko, Wood & Meat
Stuck in the mid-summer’s heatwave? Take a moment to think for a second about how much you missed this heat back in January, remember those days when you couldn’t fathom going to the corner store without full clothing, a jacket and scarf…those always help get me through those nights where you can’t fall asleep because it’s just too damn hot, maybe these fresh deep cuts can also help make it bearable, although I wouldn’t expect them to help cool things off, in fact probably just the opposite.

I heard on a new Wolf + Lamb podcast mixed up for What People Play’s podcast and found not only an excellent track, but a great song to have stuck in your head when you want to tune things out. For example, I was in a club where this horrendous, abbrasive electro-schlock was playing and between that and listening to girl-drama, the only thing going through my mind the entire time was this dope ass beat and that wacky old dude’s confident claim that everything he plays is gonna be funky. Wolf + Lamb (the production duo in this case) is releasing their debut LP Love Someone on July 16th.

came out with Runner, a burner of an LP on Crosstown Rebels late in the spring, and it has this standout track. I hear what sounds unmistakably like Janet Jackson’s voice eventually, and between the dubby stabs and the boiler room temperature of the bassline and beat, there’s a sweaty track that resonates deep vibrations in both classic and forward-thinking styles of house. This might be one of my favorite deep house tracks of the year so far.
Atnarko – Close Your Eyes (The Dirty Deep Mix) – (single)

is almost always up to something worth listening to, as an Orlando-based DJ who seems to act as an interface between the stereotypical Florida-area (ie. Miami) dance scene and the international, especially UK deep house style. Well, in May he released Close Your Eyes, which has a great assortment of alternate mixes and a very hot Soul Minority remix. I like the reserved sheen of this Dirty Deep Mix, it definitely carries a bit of that Miami/Florida vibe.

I should admit the first and last tracks in today’s post were discovered upon recommendations from my buddy Ryan, who as Lucid Transport has been making a transition into Philly’s DJ circles, joining lineups and mixing things up from his well-maintained collection of house and techno selections. After seeing Spectral’s femme fatale, , rock this track at DEMF during an early morning/late night ReSolute party, Ryan set out to discover the source. Luckily for all of us, Kate is awesome and responded to the email Ryan sent her, it’s by Chris Wood and Meat, remix by Einzelkind on the No Sad Beat EP.
