Just caught Simbad on the Freerange Podcast with a really dope remix for some unknown artist named Agape, while I salivate over that remix to come out, I have been bumping this one he did for Pirahnahead and Clara Hill. When the track finally lifts off at about 2 minutes, I am totally drawn in by the interesting play going on between the vocals, keys and bass. Very organic and soulful…when I went through Beatport to check out more from Simbad, I think this remix marks a new chapter for this guy, and I can’t wait to hear more.
Johnny Dynell – Jam Hot (Tensnake Remix) – Big Throwdown / Jam Hot Remixes

Tensnake made some big moves this summer, most notably with his summertime love-it-or-hate-it hit Coma Cat, but perhaps of equal note is this great remix he did for legendary NYC DJ/producer Johnny Dynell, who is one of the few cats still on the scene who has been there since just about the beginning. I created the cover art for this release, which is out on Smash Hit Music, a label run by 40 Thieves‘ Layne Fox, and very similar to the sense of surprise I felt when I noticed the Canyons were on another cover I did for SMH, I was blown away to hear Tensnake on this release. The drop at around 3 minutes is excellent.

Since getting hooked onto Suol‘s mature and refined Berlin deep house aesthetic, I have been checking out each new release I come across from them. They just released an EP from Fritz Zander of Zander VT, bringing the Fritz count on Suol’s artist roster to two…yes, silly American is amused by the name Fritz. This song has a smooth, loungey feel that isn’t plastic or cheesy, rather it incorporates more organic loops that mesh quite comfortably with what Suol is all about.
Akabu – Searchin’ (Jipster Remix) – Another Generation EP

Jimpster really is a go-to when it comes to good deep house, I think that anyone who is just breaking into listening to deep house should go through his catalog first. I think my formal introduction into the type of music I had been loving without understanding for year happened about 4 years ago when I first heard Jimpster’s album Amour. He has been working with Akabu for quite a while exchanging remixes back and forth, they make excellent stuff between the two of them. I love the feel of this new one, leave it to Jimpster to weave vocals into house music without making it sound like vocal house. It has me searchin’ for words to describe how catchy this track is.
