Benoit & Sergio, Pol_On, Tolga Fidan, Glimpse
Man, it has been beautiful outside, summer really blitzed spring here in NYC, but this past weekend the oppressive heat and humidity rolled back and things got to cool off a little. Well that also means it’s time for summer jams!

arrived on the scene practically out of nowhere but they have been causing some of the biggest waves on the dancefloors of Brooklyn this summer with their involvement in the catalogues of DFA, Visionquest, and Spectral Sound, the source of their newest single, Let Me Count The Ways. A notable departure from some of the lighter-weight and more airy vibes, this one shows a different side of the duo’s psyche, wrought with tension, a swirling and disorienting vocal mantra, and a rhythm that begs for release. Everything these guys put out is getting a well-warranted positive response, keep your eye on them if you aren’t already.

is a Polish duo consisting of Kacper Bogacz and Michał Piotrowski, they really straddle the line between deep house and tech house with ease. They can be found on so many key compilations, charts, and mixes from both sides of the underground dance coin, but their newest release goes solidly deep and is one of the most pleasant surprises of the young summer. I love the way this track seems to glide, I can’t put my finger on where I’ve heard that vocal-sounding synth before, but it makes this track feel ideal for cruising with the windows down letting your hand feel aerodynamic as it slices the wind.

Tolga Fidan just released a solid new LP, serving as the latest contributor to a super-solid Turkish deep house representation over the last twelve months. If I have learned anything about the Turkish people I have met, and I consider many Turks to be my friends, it is that theirs is a highly passionate generation, liberated in many senses, who are not ashamed to express their sexuality and affection. Tolga Fidan’s release affirms this free-spirited sense with an album that sounds as sensual and seductive as the cover, a photo of a pair of boobies, implies. Wave your freak flag Turkey, your deep house is delectable!

If I see anything on Beatport with the name , or his alter ego , I jump at it. Well, , whose album Runner was one of last summer’s hottest house releases, remixed Lewie Day’s hit from yesteryear, That’s The Thing. In all likelihood this track, which appears on a recently-released Nofitstate Sampler, is a re-issue and I simply passed over it last year or something. Either way, the disposable nature of dance music has an advantage– the short shelf life of dancefloor tracks allow them to be brought back easily in much less time than, say, a Top 40 track. Let’s hope both Glimpse and Lewie/Tornado have something in store for this summer, it’d be a real shame not to hear anything from them this time around. I know you dudes are busy DJ’ing parties everywhere and being house music heroes but seriously.
