Gilles Peterson In The House
This is one album I picked up last year and definitely didn’t give enough time to listen to all the way through. Upon going through it again this morning, I’ve realized that it’s a great mix of disco house when it was just called disco, definitely worth posting about. Gilles Peterson of Radio 1 mixed this installment of Defected‘s In The House series. It’s 3 CD’s worth of very classic yet still fresh-sounding tracks, many of which you’ll recognize from newer songs. He kind of runs a gamut of disco, Chicago house, funk, deep house across the 3 CDs– the first disc has been called , the second disc is dedicated to the most influential tracks to today’s dance producers, and the third is an unmixed disc filled with rare and unreleased tracks handpicked by Peterson himself.
I find myself drawn to a lot of these older tracks, they really paint an interesting picture of an era I wasn’t alive for, with tracks from and Earth, Wind & Fire really upping the glitter and lense flare factor, I also wanted to throw on this track for it’s nice, chill flow. Finally, so as not to leave out an entire disc of great house, I found this track from Mike Dunn Presents The Md X-Spress, which I’ve never heard of, but love the classic thread woven throughout the song. You can pick it up here, or just about anywhere else you buy music.
I wanted to find some really great photos from the disco era to post today, but my search came up empty-handed. Instead, I just threw something together sort of piece-meal, with a disco ball and a of Earth, Wind & Fire. I bet I could make something out of this idea if I spent more than 15 minutes on it but hey…it works, right?
