I woke up at 10 or so on Jakub’s couch, surprised my ears weren’t ringing from all the dub sub hubbub from last night.  I was able to get my act together in time to meet back up with Grant, Angelica and Matt of Body Language, the subjects of the day’s scheduled photo shoot, who had themselves just woke up from a typical night of partying in New York, glowing into the wee hours of the night like what’s mentioned in my older post about them.

After a quick and disorganized diaspora of a breakfast operation which scattered everyone around town for an hour, we returned ready to shoot.  We shot 4 rolls, spanning 4 hours or so, in 3 different locations.  Unfortunately, one of the rolls was lost to my foolish negligence, but in the end, we came out on top.  I often forewarn those I do photo shoots with that we may take 5 or 6 rolls just to find one good, solid shot.  In this case, we had many more than what’s usually afforded by my photographic process, which involves my dangerously modded Holga, among other tools of the trade.  I often describe it with the analogy “it’s like having sex while white water rafting, exciting and very unpredictable.”  The shots I chose above and below came from the use of Angelica’s Diana in the first shot, and my Holga in the second, both on 120mm.  Each of us have a different favorite, but with 9-10 solid, usable shots, some with variations, I was pretty happy.

After an exhausting shoot and a relaxing cool-down with a game of pool at Calmer‘s crib, and a record-time sprint to grab a pair of housekeys, I was joined by my friend Meghan, and we went back into Manhattan to meet up with my buddy Ryan.  The night was to be spent celebrating his birthday, and as an avid DJ and huge fan of tech and deep house and what’s going on in NYC right now, that meant Save the Cannibals, an ongoing series of parties with some of the best names in real techno at the helm, this time being Seth Troxler.  You may have seen the album cover I did for his single Aggression, which came out on Moodgadget last year.  This time, we came prepared with ear plugs, although I’d say more than half the time, I couldn’t resist letting my ears feel the same force as the rest of my body.  I only expose myself to such high decibel levels on occasion, so why not?  Another night that burned late into the morning, filled with sound, and fans!  Fans who knew what we were up to and got it…who got why we are working so hard to bring this music to their ears, and what we’re out to prove.  Thanks to everyone I met this past weekend, and everyone reading this who gets it.

Seth Troxler aka Sex Trothler

So, this first track just came out last week, and it can be yours for free!  It’s a Body Language remix of , Neon Gold‘s new UK indie pop/dance artist, the track is called .  Next is a track Matt played during the shoot, an obscure but irresistable Warp-signed group called Elektroids, with a track from 1995 called Future Tone…you guys know this kind of stuff makes me geek out.  Finally, as each “resident” who makes an appearance at Save the Cannibals does a podcast, I ‘ve included Seth’s mix here, number 9 in the series.  This is also a free dowload of course, as it’s a podcast, and it’s available with 9 other podcasts from notables like Matthew Dear and Derek Plaslaiko over at the Save the Cannibals website.
