Phreakon, Alton Miller, Dark Invader, People Under the Stairs
Some breaks for you today, mostly downtempo, mostly chilled, it’s rainy here on a Friday, I have a ton of work to catch up on, might stay in and catch the new Wolverine flick tonight. Phreakon is a local Philly cat who runs Electronic Eel, one of Philly’s few active electronic labels, he sent this track out for free just for signing up for their Eelmail mailing list. They recently released a free compilation you can get for signing up, so get check it if you like this track.

They give away your choice of 3 out of 5 tracks every week or so, usually very solid material, last time they gave out some free Losoul tracks. My favorite from Alton Miller are his more house-influenced tracks, but this one goes well with today’s theme.
Alright so this is technically jungle at its roots, not breaks, but it’s a relaxing tone of drum-n-bass that I enjoy. It’s from Dark Invader, the newest release on the Torrentech netlabel. I love how this album shamelessly wears its influences on its sleeve– this is the DnB I came to know and love back in middle school, I am a firm believer that if it sounds nice and isn’t a blatant rip-off, who cares how familiar it sounds? Does every release need to radically push boundaries? How many artists can you think of that you wish they would have stayed put sometimes? Anyway, solid release for those who can get to it.
This is a pretty rare track for Hip-Hop fans who listen to , an underground hip-hop duo from LA, it was released on one of the Om Lounge compilations, which electronic and downtempo fans are more likely to recognize. I should post up some of the P-U-T-to the-S’ hip-hop tracks soon, but for today, it’s a classic tune that helps illuminate any relaxed situation.
