Here are some more deep house cuts to get your weekend right.  I really wish I could have included these in my Crescendo mix, but alas, there is always the next mix, and mark my words, there will be one!  At any rate, these tunes are the kind of cool, deep tracks that I go for when I listen to deep house.  These amazing photos come from the artwork of Yannick Dusseault, and come from Star Wars.  The pics depict the planet Coruscant as depicted in the movies, and they set the stage for our first tune.  Click on them to see the whole panorama, this guy’s work is beyond words!

actually did appear in my Crescendo mix with an awesome cut that incorporates A Tribe Called Quest’s “Phoney Rappers,” one of my favorite old school hip hop joints (I could recite the lyrics in my sleep).  So when I discovered that Breitbarth was also in touch with his slightly nerdy side, with his release of the Coruscant EP back in 2002, I flipped right out.  For those who never had a Star Wars phase growing up, Coruscant is a planet from the series, and each track on the EP is named after a location or planet from Star Wars.  I was huge into Star Wars as a kid, and I still love the movies.  Regardless of the track titles though, the tracks themselves play out smoothly on a slightly loungey tip.  What I like the most about this EP, however, is that it can be interpreted as Breitbarth’s own musical rendition of these fantastic locations.

Audion – On My Way To The Center

As if Audion needs anyone else going on about how awesome he is, for those who don’t know, is Matthew Dear (some might say “duh” but you might be surprised to know that there are long-time listeners who never put two and two together).  Jakub put together an awesome post on ISO50 last week detailing a US version of Audion’s Hecatomb tour which literally tore black holes filled with blinding light across Europe, pairing his signature sound with dazzling displays of light and color, a la Will Calcutt, longtime Art Director for Audion.  He will be in town this November, and you can bet your ass I’ll be there! (I hope).

Florian Kruse – Be Active (Sei A Vocal Mix)

put in a blazing hot remix for Fine Art‘s Electronic Versions compilation, but just when I thought I knew what was up with this cat, my friend Ryan played this track for me in the car, I almost jumped out of the car and did back flips and cartwheels.  No joke, this is the kind of deep house that I got into the genre for.  There is definitely mainstream appeal here, this tune should get fans of Ultra and Tiesto and the like to realize just how much amazing music is out there, just waiting to be discovered.  The percussion in this track is a dead-on example of how to make a hot beat, it’s got just the right amount of tribalism to it without going overboard.

Last of all, here’s a track to hopefully make you tear up at the realization that summer is now behind us, and we’ll have to wait another 8 or 9 months before it gets hot out and people start wearing less clothing again.  I spent a while debating whether or not I wanted to buy this track, but there is something so catchy about the lows in this tune, that eventually I came around and picked it up off Beatport.  I first heard it on the Freerange podcast many moons ago, and aside from the vocal sample, was really into the vibes being put out by KiNK’s remix.  I guess this tune is too summery, too little too late to be included as a fresh cut on my next mix, but that doesn’t mean I won’t be bumping it until that 8 or 9 months have passed and the warm weather returns.
