The Epic Sci-Fi Paintings of John Berkey
There’s even more…
Last week, I had a bit of time on my hands, a great chance to spend some times scouring the internet for inspiration. I came across some astounding paintings by John Berkey, who captured the essence of what captivates my imagination and my sense of the future. The more time I spend in cities like New York and Philadelphia, and having visited cities all over Europe and in China, I am always inspired by the skyline and the architecture, and my imagination often kicks in when I get to thinking of how things might look a century or so from now. John Berkey was clearly a visionary when he created these paintings throughout the second half of the 20th century, as you can see how newer matte and digital renditions of the future seem to draw inspiration from the simplistic, streamlined shapes at play with the incredible color palette. Hope you are as captivated by this man’s work as I was.

i really like the star wars painting but there are some technicalities missing in a few places. darth vader’s chest piece is missing his life support controls, r2d2 is missing a few buttons and panels (his retractable arm / data synchronizer for example), and the stormtroopers armor is inaccurate. not to mention the y-wing’s cockpit is disproportionate to the depiction in the film(s) and the x-wing’s guns are shooting from the wrong place (if i recall correctly they are firing proton beams from where the concussion bombs would be fired).
but they are all minor technicalities. i still like it.
