Deerhunter - Rainwater Cassette Exchange

A little indie rock and pop never hurt anybody right?  Here are some tunes I came across recently to give you a reason to wear your shades and rock out.

First up is , with a tune that indie fundamentalists might dismiss as cliche or poorly written, but that I’ll go ahead and say kicks ass because it has pop appeal for incorporating what sounds good, it makes me feel like I’m back in high school, or like I’d see it on The Hills…if I were ever abducted, subdued, and forced to watch that f*&%ing show at gunpoint.  I’m a big fan of the lyrical melodies in this track.

The reason I mentioned indie fundamentalists are because of the existence of bands like .  This awesome track is from their newest EP pictured above.  We’ve heard frontman Bradford Cox’s solo project a month or so ago, I read on Deerhunter’s iTunes page (where their press photo was recently mentioned on ISO50) that Cox is almost as famous for his rawkus stage performance as he is “for his diatribes.”  Can anyone tell me what that refers to?  I find Bradford Cox’s very existence in his position to be captivating, the story of a kid surely picked on and hassled to no end for his physical appearance, who would go on to embark on a quest that would write his name in rock history.

The next band is actually called …which I’m guessing is derived from the film V for Vendetta.  This wildly retarded choice of name for this band almost made me pass right over them, but in light of JUST PRESSING PLAY, I resisted the urge and gave them a listen.  What I found was some unavoidably catchy electronic indie pop, reminiscent of (formely Skeletons & The Girl-Faced Boys, these guys should serve as an example of the benefits of not making your band name scare listeners away).  Fun track to act like a goofball to, I think these guys are just out there to have fun.

are a band that will please fans of School of Seven Bells, a very hip concoction of qualities of both rock and pop, mixed with electronic production techniques.  I think a shoegazey guitar progression goes perfectly with a nice, driving electronic beat, so this title track from their latest full-length Feel.Love.Thinking.Of. got me moving instantly…if only the rest of the album did the same.  I’ll need to revisit in a few months.
