Asobi Seksu, Burger/Voigt, Hum, Atlas Sound
Time for some shoegazey tracks for you to gaze at your sneaks to and wonder how the hell it’s already Wednesday. Along with this random wild photo I found on ….well, FFFFOUND! I’m not sure what the hell it’s trying to communicate, but the colors here are so inviting.
, (Japanese, translating roughly to “playful sex”) is a relatively new band, formed in NYC in 2004. Singer Yuki Chikudate‘s voice is so sexy in this song. Great tune that sounds like sticking your head out the car window during a late-June sunset drive. The whole song builds up and then crashes back to earth in a slow-falling cymbal-filled finale.
Burger/Voigt are Kompakt recording artsts Jörg Burger and Wolfgang Voigt. This track has a notably more rock/pop element to it than most of their other more dancefloor-oriented materials, it appeared on Kompakt’s Total 9 compilation released last August. Extra points to you if you can post a comment with what it is they’re saying. I’m hearing “thank you” and “this wall made of sound” but what’s the rest?
Hum is a band that I’m proud to say I knew about back when they were still together, I heard Stars and I Hate It Too on some crappy alternative music promo I found in my Mom’s CD’s of all places. While Hum’s sound probably falls into a harder genre of rock than straight shoegaze, I think these guys had the right idea for sure. I love the ending sequence in this track as well, when everything switches gears and some girl comes in speaking what sounds like Dutch (maybe? not sure, once again, points to anyone who does).
Atlas Sound is a band I just got into after reading my friend Jakub’s post over at ISO50. Atlas Sound is the solo project of Deerhunter-frontman Brandon Cox, from Let The Blind Lead Those Who Can See But Cannot Feel, released by Kranky, whose artistry I’ve posted here before. I also included this awesome video, by – a project for his cinematography class at SCAD. Hopefully he got an A.
