Now that the spring semester at Parsons is finally coming to a close, I have the summer to work on a few projects, I’m exploring internship opportunities, and the change of pace is eagerly welcomed. Hopefully I will have some more time to post on the blog now that I have the time and energy. Some of my projects will certainly be presented here at the very least. Anyway, here are a few nice deep cuts I’ve been bumping recently.

St. Plomb – Wild At Heart (Agnes Favela Funk Remix) – Wild At Heart EP

I don’t know much about the deep/tech house producer Agnes, whose incredible production work is overshadowed by a ho-hum vocal/progressive house act with the same name. While I wait around and hope that the Agnes EP on Hudd Traxx, which is currently only out on vinyl, gets released in digital format of some sort, I can bounce along to this remix he (or she?) did for St. Plomb. I dig that chunky low-pitched stab and the slowly morphing, filtered pad.

Alain Ho – I Remember The Future – Do You Remember The Future

Alain Ho (aka DJ Yellow) is another producer I previously wasn’t too closely familiar with, but the label his newest EP got released on is definitely familiar. Big ups to Buzzin’ Fly for re-engaging me just as I was starting to grow bored and disenchanted with their releases. This track requires a bit of patience up front, but by the time the song reaches the halfway mark, it’s built up subtly into a killer mechanical groove. Love the track’s title too, it definitely has a futuristic feel, which I love when producers really nail that aesthetic.

Peter Horrevorts – Crackhouse – Kitties Wanna Dance 2

Dutch producer caught my ear in 2010 with a track that remains an all-time fav, called Escapade (posted here). With a healthy serving of remixes, including a great remix for Wehbba, it leaves me wondering with the original mixes from this guy are all hiding. I wonder if an EP or -GASP- an entire LP are close to the horizon at all. We can ponder it as we groove to the wah of the guitar loop and the driving pulse of the kick. This original mix track of Peter’s appears on the fairly dope Kitties Wanna Dance 2 Compilation from Suara Records, which includes some great stuff from Phonogenic and Pol On.

Mihai Popoviciu, Toygun & Leader – The Quest – Front Groove EP

Topping things off, we have a B-side I’ve been enjoying from the latest Hudd Traxx release. It’s by , Toygun & Leader (don’t know, don’t know, aaaaaaand don’t know). This track has a pretty chill vibe with these wave-like stabs and a vocal that sounds a lot like Maya Angelou, telling you some encouraging shit about staying true to my quest.
